Suez Canal is a most important human-made sea-level waterway in Egypt.

It is known as a gateway between the East and the West. Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.

Suez Canal is a trade route between Asia and Europe. It has reduced the distance between India and Europe by 7000 km.

The construction of the Suez Canal began in 1859 by the Suez Canal Company. The Suez Canal Company was formed by Ferdinand de Lesseps.

The construction of the Suez Canal took 10 years it was completed on 17 November 1869.

The length of the Suez canal is 193.30 km, It is 24 m deep and 205 m wide.

Since its completion in 1869, it has become one of the world’s most heavily used shipping lanes. 12% of world trade by volume passes through the Suez canal. Over 20,600 ships passed through the Suez canal in 2021. This means, that nearly 50 ships pass through the Canal each day.

Through the Suez canal, ships carry everything from crude oil and refined products to finish goods like electronic items and toys. The Suez Canal is a major source of hard currency for Egypt.
